Near Future Garden

RHS Gold Medal Winner

As visitors enter the garden they follow a meandering path embedded with footprints. The centre of the garden, visible as a vortex of black ‘oil’, represents our heavy carbon use. It appears to be slowly draining away as we continue to burn fossil fuels.

Rising temperatures challenge plant adaptation. The planting scheme includes drought-tolerant plants – a typical English garden of the near future?

Wooden sculptures represent the sun, wind and water. Each element calls man to harness these natural energy resources now, for a renewed future.
